The main feature of glass in the pharmaceutical field is its chemical stability which differs according to the product with which the glass comes into contact depending on its use.
In this sense, the production of the different types of glass takes place in full compliance with the standards imposed by the European (EP) and American (USP) Pharmacopoeia.
These bottles for pharmaceuticals are made of sodium - calcium glass with low alkaline content with good hydrolytic resistance: the hydrolytic resistance and the resistance to sudden temperature change, achieves better results than normal glass, while lower than borosilicate glass.
Type III glass is suitable for non-aqueous or powdered injectable preparations, with the exception of lyophilisates.
It can also be used for non-parental preparations. Type III glass containers are normally dry sterilized before filling.
The use of amber glass is recommended for preparations sensitive to ultra violet rays by the European and American Pharmacopoeia.
Through the addition of coloring oxides this type of glass is able to protect the content, maintaining a good transparency.
